During the second week of the school year as Kindergarteners are starting to settle into their new environment, the students are paired and sent to different areas of the school with the classroom aide. When the children arrive to their designated area they take several pictures of the surroundings and any people they may encounter in the area. After all of the children have had a chance to go out into the building and take pictures the teacher downloads all of the photographs onto the classroom computer and prints out the pictures.

Over the next several days in the writing block, the students and teacher label the pictures together and start adding them to a class book that the children will use in the reading center to become more familiar with the school community.

Comments
The classroom book could be used as tool for new students that join the class during the middle of the school year so they are able to learn the building and the many people that work their.
