For this project, students may work in small groups, with each student serving the function of subject, photographer, and videographer, but each student will complete a DVD about himself.
Step One: Each student will brainstorm a list of key aspects of his life which he may document in his multimedia project. For example, he may wish to cover his childhood, friendships, family, hobbies or interests, sports, etc. He should also consider what his favorite foods, drinks, and consumer goods are--these will be his advertisers.
Step Two: In small groups, students will present their brainstorm list and discuss what media is most suitable to communicate these ideas. They may choose to create a music slideshow, a short film, an animation, etc.
Step Three: Working individually, students will plan each segment of their DVD. Plans should include what is being communicated, the format, and a script or storyboard for each.
Step Four: Students will work in small groups to create 30-second commercials for each of their individual projects. Finding the commonalities, the groups can then create commercials which can be used by each member. For instance, they may all find that they like Nike shoes, McDonald's, Coke, and so on. These will become sponsors for the group members and the commercials for these sponsors will be part of the finished DVD.
Step Five: Each student, with help from his group, will create at least three segments for his DVD, which may be comprised of any combination of formats. Working cooperatively, students will serve as one another's photographers and videographers as needed, but each student must edit the final result for himself.
Step Six: Each student will create a DVD to place his finished segments in and burn two copies for the instructor. |
