In order for students to apply to competitive colleges, trade schools and prepare in other post-secondary work, we need to give students the right tools to work with. Currently, my department has about 12 consistently working laptops that it shares amongst 6 teachers. This is not enough for students to create applications for the next stage of their lives. This is why we need help in purchasing a laptop cart for these students.

Why I Teach: I wear many hats at my school. I teach English class to 11th and 12th graders who are primarily a part of the special education and English language learner population. I also teach a 10th and 11th grade advisory class. I am the coordinator for our school's advisory program, whose goal is to meet the social and emotional needs of our entire student body. Thus, I meet with teachers and create lesson plans and PowerPoints for them to follow. I also am part of our school's college readiness team, whose goal is to prepare students for college through SAT/ACT prep, college essay work, interview help and much more. Lastly, I am a tutor in our schools afterschool program and I also teach Regents prep on most Saturdays. I do all of these things because I am committed to the success of urban students. Education is very personal to me because of my own experiences in high school. I see myself when I look at my students and I identify with where they come from and where they want to go.
