Materials Required: Computer with internet and Powerpoint Digital Camera White Board Video Camera Projector Visual Aids, maps, charts etc. Food Supplies
Objectives: To gain a better understancing of our global society. To understand cultural influences and its relationship with the food people eat. To understand the effect of geography, climate and demographics on the food supply in the world.
Procedure: Opening: Discuss the importance of world food supplies and world hunger. Discuss our global village and our responsibility to navigate throughout the world's diversity.
Where to find information: 1. Interview someone from your selected country. Document 2. Call or visit a restaurant that serves food from your selected country. Document 3. Access Web sites for starters: The Global Gastronomer
Information for Report : 1. Include a map of your selected country. Note Capital/Key Cities. 2. Explore their customs, their lifestyles and their history. Include data such as demographics: population, life expectancy, government, religion, language, literacy rate and industry. 3. What effect has this country had on the world? What is their relationship (if any) with the United States? 4. What foods grow naturally in this country? How do traditions determine what is or is not eaten? List some common cooking methods or techniques used. List typical spices and/or seasonings used in food preparation. 5. Describe the effects of climate and geography on the foods consumed? 6. What influence has this country's food had in the United States. 7. Include a typical menu: appetizers, salads, entrees, desserts etc.
Presentation: 1. Arrange information into a interactive and/or powerpoint report. 2. Illustrate data on a white board 3. Select one dish to prepare for the entire class. Tape/ photos. Limit $35.00 |
