Students begin by designing a building by using basic legos. Students are then introduced to Sketch-up (free download through Google for Educators). Students watch introductory videos and explore tools. They design a simple building based on their lego creation. Digital photos of their models can also be used on the program as a guide if resources are available. Finally they create a 3-D model of their lego building.
Students complete their project by using tools to add texture and color.

Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
To connect into social studies students could use photos of buildings in their community or state. They can also utilize online pictures of famous and historical buildings. There is also a process by which the buildings they create in their community can be added onto Google Earth. |
