Purchase iPads for the classroom. Purchase educational apps: Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Flashcards, PopMath, Brain Challenge, Word Warp X, iBooks.
The Reading Workshop will begin during the first week of the school year. One literacy-based center will be working on iPads. Students can search through the library of iBooks. Students select a book to read. After reading a book, students will create a book talk using the Flip Camcorder. These book talks will be published on my teacher web page for parents/family to view. Students can search through these book talks to find an iBook with high reviews and find a new iBook to read.
Students use the Pages Application to write a script for their book talk before recording.
Students working in Literature Circles can identify difficult vocabulary and create flash cards showing the vocabulary word and its meaning.
Students can use Word Warp X as a Working With Words activity. Instead of having copied pages to write words on, this application is very interactive and highly motivating.
There are so many wonderful educational applications that can be used in the Reading Workshop that would motivate students to 'play' and 'learn'. Students love technology and will love using the iPads in the classroom.
