Keywords: Kidspiration, Elementary, Apples, Math
Subject(s): Math
Grades P-K through 2
School: Central Park Elem School, Bossier City, LA
Planned By: Carey DeLaune
Original Author: Jen Wagner, Murrieta

Share with the students that they are going to be placing apples on a tree.
Explain that the number on the tree trunk will be how many apples they will place on the tree.

Open the Kidspiration file (applecount).
Have the students notice that the apple symbol will be on the FIRST page of symbols.

Remind the students to click where they wish the apple to go before clicking on the apple or they may just drag the apple symbol over. If the apple is too large, show them by using the corner sizer buttons, they can change the size of the apple.

Have the students look carefully at the tree trunk # before placing the apples.

This kidspiration template uses all the space available on the worksheet so the students might need to scroll up/down, left/right to see all the trees.

Instruct the students that when they are finished, they need to double check their work before printing.

If working with a large group -- with a interactive white board -- invite students to come up and move the apples to the trees.

EXTENSION IDEA:
Using this kidspiration template as a center allows you to have a variety of other apple ideas going on simultaneously within your classroom. Please see Cross curricular ideas for center ideas.
Comments
Kidspiration Template can be used either independently on student computers or used with an interactive white board.

If I were to do this in my classroom, I would have 6 centers set up.
1. Kidspiration Apple Count Template
2. Apple Print Art (Cut apples in 1/2 with varies plates of paint and white construction paper) Let them stamp apples.
3. Apple Science Area with scales and magnifying glasses. Have them share with an adult helper what they notice. Write down responses or record responses.
4. Apple Coloring Sheet
5. Prerecord reading of 10 Apples up on top and have students read along as they listen. Or have an adult helper read the book with the students.
6. Apple Booklets. Cut out 2 apple shapes (Or use premade from any teacher supply store) and place 4 blank pages in between and staple into a booklet. Have students write down 3 facts they know about apples on pages 1, 2, 3 and why they like apples (or do not) on page 4.
