1. Standard: Students demonstrate knowledge of competency in motor skills, movement patterns, and strategies needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
2. Objective: Demonstrate and be engaged in a variety of activities that contribute to improvement of overall fitness. 3. Tools: Power Point presentation, projector, and a IPod compatibility sound system. The game show Deal or No Deal PowerPoint presentation has a directions/rules page to go over. The home page has 25 numbered suitcases on it. When a number is clicked, it hyperlinks to a page of a certain exercise. There is also a NO DEAL icon if the student chooses No Deal. Lastly, on every page there is a home icon that will link you back to the home screen with the suitcases on it.
Introduction: Divide class into two even teams (leave large gap between teams) Have students spread out arms distance apart in 4 lines for each team. Have them sit down for instructions. DEAL OR NO DEAL: Get into 2 teams. One student on first team picks one numbered case That team can accept (DEAL) or not accept (NO DEAL) If the team accepts, they have to do the exercise If the team declines, the other team has to do the exercise and the first team HAS to do the NO DEAL exercise The next team plays
4. Guided Practice: The instructor has a microphone that he/she walks around with. Starting from team on the right, the instructor walks up to a student and asks that student to pick a numbered suitcase. Once the student chooses a box, the teacher clicks on the box . An exercise will appear. That student can accept (DEAL) or not accept (NO DEAL) If the team accepts, they have to do the exercise; if the team declines, the other team has to do the exercise and the first team HAS to do the NO DEAL exercise. If the team picks NO DEAL, there is a NO DEAL icon that the teacher clicks and that team HAS to do that exercise. The instructor will then click the home icon to go back to the original screen with the numbered suitcases. The original number is Xed out. The next team plays. The instructor needs to walk around making sure all the students are doing the exercises.
5. Independent Practice: Each team will properly be doing an exercise while having fun playing a game show activity.
6. Differentiated Instruction: Make sure all students understand the instructions and if needed have a bilingual student interprets the directions/instruction to the ELL learner. Also, with high skilled athletic students I will have them do double everything that they are supposed during the Deal or No Deal game.
7. Closure: Bring all students together and have talk about the work out and get a cheer in.
Extras: There will be an IPod compatibility sound system that music will be playing during this lesson to keep the students pumped and motivated to participate. The instructor will take pictures and video for the Physical Education website, end of year video, Motivational board in the boys/girls locker-room, and yearbook.

Mira Monte opened this year in the fall of 2008 with our first set of freshmen and sophomore classes. The Mira Monte Physical Education Department’s main goal is to expose students to a wide variety of physical activities in an effort to encourage lifelong enjoyment and fitness. It is very important for our students to be engaged in physical activity because obesity has become a huge problem in children and adults in our society. Also, being engaged in physical activities can reduce the risk of chronic diseases like: hypertension, type 2 diabetes, high blood lipids, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. As a Physical Education teacher, my goal is to create lessons that are fun, include fitness and social education and help instill a love for lifelong enjoyment and fitness. I have made this PowerPoint presentation but our department does not have the technology to complete this lesson. |
