4.01 Define the role of a historian and explain the importance of studying history.

4.04 Describe the causes and effects of the American Revolution and analyze their
influence on the adoption of the Aricles of the Conferation, Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

4.05 Describe the impact of wars and conflicts on United States citizens.

Student will learn about the American Revolution: Events leading up to the revolution, conflicts, events and people.

Some of the learning activities included:
Interview a family member about the importance of history and an important historical even. Share responses to introduce unit.

Create a working time line of important events leading up to, during, and after the American Revolution.

Participate in a simulation of the Molasses Act. (Trade Triangle Activity)

Participate in an on-going activity in which students pay taxes to King George for various reasons, such as wearing jeans, to help students empathize with the feelings of colonists. Students will write about their experience.

Design a cartoon to illustrate the Sons of Liberty motto "Join or Die."

Perform play- The Boston Tea Party

Prepare and conduct on going debates about issues leading up to the American Revolution.

Research and Re-enact The Winter at Valley Forge, The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and the Signing of the Declaration.

Write a persausive essay to King George explaining why the Colonist should/ should not be taxed.

Learn about different artifacts from this time period-Traveling Trunk which is provided by the Charlotte Museum of History.

Research a historical person and conduct interviews with each person from that time period.

Invite re-enactors from Charlotte Museum of History for 3 hours of activities.

The Flip video camera will allow us to video several of our activities I would love to make a DVD for my children to have at the end of the year as a movin on gift.
The other members of my team will also be able to use this technology in their classroom as well.
