Keywords: Physics: Sound Waves
Subject(s): Physics
Grades 9 through 10
School: City of Angels School, Los Angeles, CA
Planned By: Karin Kroener
Original Author: Karin Kroener, Los Angeles
Students will have read about "Sound Waves" already from their science book - Intercoordinated Science. They will also have done a hands on experiment from this text book demonstrating how sound waves travel.

Next, in order to integrate technology, they will log on to discoveryeduction.com and watch a video entitled "Waves: Sound and Electromagnetism." This video has 7 different segments and is very engaging. After viewing the video there is an on-line quiz covering topics in the movie. This quiz will then be printed and turned in to the teacher.

Attached to the video at discoveryeducation.com are incredible extension activities, including vocabulary work, for this lesson as well.
Comments
Our students have not been successful in the regular high school setting. This could be there last chance at a high school diploma. There are many math and science resources to help students be successful, such as the physics lesson above, however, most of my students do not have computers. I need these computers so that I can check them out, like a library, so that they can do the virtual labs from home.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Math tie-ins are easy to make with science.
Follow-Up
Virtual labs on similar topics, such as "Glass Breaking with Sound" on teachersdomain.org
