Keywords: using video to learn vocabulary
Subject(s): Video, Technology, English/Language Arts
Grade P-K
School: Enid Senior High School, Enid, OK
Planned By: Debbie Mueller
Original Author: Debbie Mueller, Enid
Students in my media classes are divided into groups of 3-5 and given a list consisting of 5 words that they must act out and define the word on video. The list of words is a school wide project to help students increase their vocabulary. The list is comprised of ACT test words. I wanted my classes to perform the words to help give students a visual to remember the meaning of the word. Each group selects one student to represent them on the selection committee. The chosen videos are then edited and a 8 minute video is presented in front of the entire school.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
It is possible to join with any English class that is working on the words of the day.
Follow-Up
school wide test is given at the end of the semester over the words to see how our students show progress in learning the words.
