Creating an interactive learning environment Page Views: 248

Once a week during our reading block, we use centers as a reincforcement activity for reading skills taught during the week and throughout the unit. As part of this weekly center time, I try and incorporate as much interactive technology as possible. We have the following availabe to use, 4 classroom pc's, and mimio softaware/hardware. Students are divided into 6 groups of 4. Each group spends 10 minutes at a station working together on skills. They then rotate through each station during that hour. Two of the stations include interactive websites on the classroom pc's and an interactive activitiy using the mimio. I believe that I can further the use of technology through a classroom IPAD. Students would be able to use the IPAD to read stories to them and then answer questions. They can also use the IPAD to practice inferencing, drawing conclusions, making predictions, or compare and contrast through various IPAD applications. I have found that the center time improves learning and the technology creates a more engaging environment. |

If I recieve the Ipad, I plan to purchase the applications myself or ask for donations for itune cards to purchase necessary applications. |
Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
In addition to reading, the ipad can be used for math with various math applications including flash cards and manipulatives. It can also be used for science through appilcations such as sky maps, or microscopes. |
Follow-Up |
Students will continue to explore uses for the IPAD throughout the school year. |
