As an ESL teacher who teachers beginner level students (English as a Second Language)I currently use a variety of literature to teach my ESL student’s new vocabulary and concepts about various emotions that are related to facial expressions. Considering the varied cultures in our ESL program (Hispanic, Turkish, etc) different facial expressions are viewed differently by these cultures. However, through this project I used technology to increase the literacy and technology skills of ELL’s. Students learn about different feelings and facial expressions by listening to stories and then illustrate various emotions. We then walk around the school and findd people expressing these different emotions. Students take pictures of peoples different facial experssions and write short stories about what they are feeling and why they may be feeling that way. Stories are typed and then put together using Power Point. Students have the opportunity to type a sentence to go along with their photo using Alpha Smarts and then made a presentation using Power Point. Students become familiar with using a digital camera, Alpha Smarts, scanner, and Power Point. |
