School: Soaring Hawk Elementary, Castle Rock, CO
Planned By: Bridget Cole
Original Author: Bridget Cole, Castle Rock
Lesson Goals:
The students will be able to identify geometric shapes in and around the school.
The students will be able to identify the properties of the above shapes.

After learning about polygons, their different shapes, and properties, students will sort and classify them based on number of angles, angle measurements and types. Students will learn that polygons can be classified in a variety of ways.

Pairs of students will go through the school and playground taking pictures of polygons they encounter. Pictures will be downloaded onto classroom computer.

Using Keynote or Powerpoint, students will create a Guess my Polygon quiz. Students will write property clues (ex. number of angles, number of sides, parallel sides...) about the item they have photographed on the first slide. Classmates will try to guess the mystery polygon. Answers will be checked by revealing the photograph. Classmates can also try to find the location of the photograph.
