School: Wentzville Holt High School, Wentzville, MO
Planned By: Constance Hallemeier
Original Author: Constance Hallemeier, Wentzville
Objectives:
1. Students will create a script for a newscast with examples of each of the number types: natural, whole, integer, rational, irrational and real.
2. Students will perform the newcast to be video taped
3. Students will watch other newcasts and identify the different number types in other students' newscasts.

Supplies: Paper and pencil to write the script, check list of number types, props (as needed) for the newscast, video cameras to record the newscasts, computers to show the newscasts for other groups to view

Procedure:
1. Students are given an introduction to the number types: natural, whole, integer, rational, irrational and real. As a class, students will begin making a short list of topics in which each number type is represented, example: golf uses integers.
2. Students are assigned to groups of 3 - 4 students and assign roles within the group for the newscast: anchorman, sportscaster, weatherperson, etc.
3. Each student writes their portion of the script, making sure each number type is represented at least twice in the collecctive group script.
4. As a group, they create the transitions from one part of the newscast to the next, incorporating more number types and using the check list of number types to assure they included each number type at least twice.
5. The newscast is practiced and then recorded - each group recording individually.
6. Groups exchange videos and watch the newscasts. As they watch the newscasts, the group is to identify the topic and the number type represnted in that topic.
