Students have read the Novel Joy Luck Club and this lesson is their final project based assessment. Students are broken into groups of 3 or 4. Each group selects a different chapter from the novel. The challenge is to rewrite a chapter of Amy Tan's Joy Luck Club as a 5 minute video showing the use of 10 different common SAT Vocabulary words. Students can not 8use* the word in teh video, they must *show* the definition of the word through their actions. Students must first select 10 appropriate SAT words from a recommended list. Students then write a script to parody the chapter from the novel. Once the script is complete students must complete a storyboard to include all necessary editing and filming information. Students must identify appropriate props, costumes, setting, sound and lighting.
Students use flip cameras to film their scenes.
Students must format the video is such a manner: Title screen with all team member names Black screen with Vocab word and definition Video telling the story and depicting the word in action Black Screen with the SAT word and sentence using the SAT word to describe the action that has just taken place. This patter should repeat for all 10 SAT Vocab words. (Vocab Videos should be similar in format to SAT Vocab Videos offered by A+ Education online)
Students then use movie editing software to create their film and upload it to our classTeacherTube page.
Videos are then posted to our class wiki, where we have additional chapter analysis, vocabulary, character analysis, etc. posted. |
