Students will use Flip Video cameras in a variety of ways in the science classroom, including: presenting individual and group research projects to the whole class; recording data in long-term observations and experiments; presenting information they find out about current science on the student area of the NPR Science Friday website and creating videos of their own to post on the website; and generally enhancing classroom activities. For example, recently, we made scale models of the moon & sun based on the size of the Earth globe. By recording these to look at later, the full impact of the kids’ excitement when realizing how far the model moon would be from the model earth could be felt again and revisited.

We will have video evidence of all material recorded by students. Students will become more comfortable and proficient in talking about science experiment results, current science topics, as well as research topics.

Students have used video in my science classroom previously, and the results are amazing. Because they want to record themselves as much as possible, it has led them to a deeper understanding of current science articles they had previously summarized in writing. Another exciting result is that quiet children suddenly find their voice! Students also become completely creative and innovative by deciding how to communicate their science information in an entertaining way.

Below, I'm checking off the items that pertain to my classroom, but the video equipment I currently have in my room has found its way to other grade levels and other subject areas, as I'm sure these Flip Video cameras will too!!
Comments
We have all other items necessary to show videos in class, as well as post them on school websites. Because of the simplicity of using Flip Video cameras, we don't need anything else!
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
We are constantly making connections in science to other curriculum areas, especially math, language arts, and social studies. With this number of cameras, we could do so much in all areas!
Follow-Up
These will be continually used in my classroom before, during and after lab experiences, while researching current issues/findings in science in the "real world", and for making presentations.
