School: Heritage Hall School, Oklahoma City, OK
Planned By: Karen Littlefield
Original Author: Karen Littlefield, Oklahoma City
Students read and discuss Avi's book "Crispin the Cross of Lead." This discussion happens during the time they were studying Medieval Art and artists with the art teacher. After reading the book the following groups were formed; (1) A group was assigned to research the author Avi and prepare a video presentation. (2) A group was assigned to select from a group of snapshots of Europe photos that related to events and locations in the book Crispin. They were then to create a video podcast. (3) Two groups were given select chapters in the book Crispin. They were to create a video presentation of the events in those chapters.

The students were given the flip camera to video tape the author interview and the chapter presentations. The podcast group used Garage Band to create the video podcast. Those were then imported to iMovie and used to create a DVD presentation for the entire grade as a review of their unit on Medieval Art.

The students met with the librarian 2 times prior to the creation day. The librarian helped with the video camera and the building of the DVD presentation.

The students were graded with a oral rubric created on RubiStar.
Comments
The students were responsible for gathering props, writing scripts, and video taping their portion of the lesson. They met with the librarian 2 times prior to the actual taping sessions. The excitement and energy this created in relation to Medieval Art and reading was unbelievable.
