Hook: Pertussis commercial/PSA featuring a mother and baby, discussing the dangers of whooping cough for infants.
Intro to new material: school nurse will inform students about the dangers of Pertussis, the reason for getting the shot, and about the new mandate that all students in the district receive a shot before next school year.
Guided Practice: teacher will help students brainstorm a way to present the information about Pertussis and the vaccine. •pre-production - brainstorm idea for piece
Independent Practice: students will create a skit, poem, rap, or informational segment explaining the importance of getting the Pertussis vaccine. •production - shoot skit or piece
Assessment/Deliverable: students will assemble video PSA piece featuring the projects from all 3 groups of students. Teacher will show students final piece. •post-production - edit scenes in Final Cut Pro |

I listed the other items above as a wishlist but I thought we could win just Flip cameras. Flip cameras and the other items would be great but I would be happy with just Flip cameras for this project! A mobile lab would be amazing and a digital SLR would be incredible but anything you can afford to give us would be awesome as the Pertussis issue is really big. |

Follow-Up |
Take the video to classrooms and present about Pertussis and the importance of getting the shot in person in front of the students' peers. Send the video to other schools in the district to watch and possibly even to the Department of Public Health! |
