Objective One: Students will be learn basic weather terminology and weather concepts from the instructor, book, and via research.
Objective Two: Students demonstrate knowledge of unit by writing a script for a daily weather broadcast using the knowledge acquired in the unit.
Objective Three: Students will cooperate with a team member and others to perform the weather broadcast to be recorded on a flip video recorder or a computer generated program.
Objective Four: Students will be prepared to use the technology and present the video performance to the class.
Objective Five: Students will assess each other on weather concepts and performance criteria that were provided at the beginning of the lesson.
The weather report lesson motivates students to learn weather terminology and concepts, so as to be able to write a script and perform in front of their peers and the instructor. It provides students the opportunity to be as creative and innovative as they want when presenting the weather concepts. They must learn to communicate with a team member, the instructor, and many times family members that are utilized in their production. Students will use research skills when writing the script. Technology will be used while they record and edit their performances before viewing. Many use skills learned in computer class to create technologically advanced weather performances.
In summation, the weather unit is highly successful using students' current skills but developing new ones while learning all about the weather.

Comments |
We have computers, printers, one flip video camera, and one older DVD camcorder to assist students We would benefit in having enough to assist lower income students that do not have technology at home and must record at school. It would be beneficial to have 10 or more flip cameras for that need. |
Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
We try to link the weather topic to papers written in English class and to books being read in Reading class. |
Follow-Up |
We view the best performances from one of the four 8th grade classes so as students learn from others. |
