Tracing the World

Day 1 - Students will discuss how things change over time. The class will discuss how clothes change, technology changes, and our environment changes. They will then be shown maps that were drawn in different time periods and discuss how as the perimeter of exploration grew, so did the drawings of maps.
We will place maps from different time periods up on the interactive white board and students will take turns going up and identifying similarities and differences.
A n outline of the Earth will be on the white board and the continents will be outside the outline, Students will be asked to go up and move contents into the correct area in the map.
Teaching prekindergarten to fifth grade, I have lessons for each grade level. Prekindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade will do mapping activities that will use maps of the school and creating maps of their homes. They will also create timelines of their lives, by placing pictures in the correct order on the interactive whiteboard.
Second Grade will be using the whiteboard to create maps of our community. They will use pictures of buildings in our community and place the in the correct place on a street map of our town.
Third Grade will focus on Michigan and the area surrounding it. Students will identify and place lakes, rivers, and neighboring states. They will also place major cities in the correct place in Michigan.
Fourth Grade will focus on World Geography and will use different types of maps to compare and contrast climates, industries, terrain, and location.
Fifth Grade will focus on United States History and Geography from early ages through the Revolutionary war. They will use outline maps of the United States and show which countries settled in which areas and show how boundries changed through time.
