– All the students in the class will propose several American Historical Figures in any area of American history (Arts, Sciences, politics, etc..). They will be assigned one of their choices by the teacher in order to insure no historical figure is duplicated.
- The student will research the historical figure, reading a biography of his/her life & completing a biography book report on their subject.
- They will create a timeline using the TIMELINER program detailing 10 or more important events in the life of their figure.
- Students will find a photograph of their figure in which they will try to duplicate the look of the era, manner, and dress of their historical figure to create a costume (this does not mean they need to purchase items, rather see what they can create or utilize to give the idea of the period).
-The student will create a poster with illustrations and details to identity facts about his/her historical figure.
– Students will design a short speech, in which they will speak as their chosen figure in a Living Wax Museum created at school (the school and parents will be invited to come)
- Students will have their performance recorded using the Flip Video Camera prior to the museum opening to insure sound quality.
– Students will set up in an assigned area in our makeshift Wax Museum displaying their posters, props, timelines etc. The student will have his/her Wax figure pose(s) prepared. There will be push buttons located on the floor for museum guests to push. When the buttons are pressed, the student will come to life to speak (short speech) as their historical figure teaching about them to the museum patrons made up of schoolmates, parents, district personnel, and community members.
– The video footage will be utilized to cut together a movie teaching about the Historical Figures chosen along with a quiz scavenger hunt of questions to share with the classrooms in the school to further teach the important facts and details. |
