You are going to create a shopping list of 30 items in Microsoft Excel. Set-up your table like this: Column A B C D Item Name Quantity Price Per Item Total Price 1. 2. Shopping Order Total: $
1. Create your table of 30 grocery store items. 2. Pick a quantity of each item that you choose (make your quantity between 1 and 5 with a mixture of each quantity) 3. After you have completed your grocery list, go to www.shoprite.com and find the “price per item” to fill in this column. 1. Go to www.shoprite.com 2. On left hand column, click on “Groceries” 3. On left click on “Shop Online” 4. Enter 08088 as zipcode 5. Pick first Shoprite that appears and click “Click here to shop from home” 6. In search bar type in name of item and find item price 4. Once you have the individual prices per item, you can go back to your chart and find the total price column. 5. The final step is to find the total price of your shopping order. Make a title for this after your last item. 6. If you finish earlier than other students, you may then change colors, fonts, sizes, etc. of your table. |

You can use this for a combination of math, language arts, and technology. You can incorporate language arts if maybe you are doing a spelling or vocabulary unit dealing with grocery items. |
Follow-Up |
You can look at students final shopping list totals and talk about why different lists vary in price. Ask questions like how does the quantity you buy affect the price, etc. |
