4th and 5th Grade students use the program Hyperstudio 5 to create a 5 page report on a system of the human body. This program allows students to create slides that included:

• Title and Author of the project
• An explanation of the system; what is its function for the body (e.g. The Nervous System)
• An illustration using the drawing tools of the program, which can be animated
• A disease of that system
• An autobiography slide, including why you picked this human body system and what was learned

One student liked the idea of taping glow sticks to their bodies and videotaping themselves using the Flip Video camera to show the nervous system. Another student’s project was on the Lymphatic system of the human body, and wanted to demonstrate what the disease Lymphedema did to the legs of a person. The students came after school to perfect their “skit”. The video was imported to their project. Students shared their reports with the class using an overhead projector and a computer. They were graded on their multimedia project and their oral presentation.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Students wrote a Reflection (3 Paragraphs) on how they felt about their oral presentation and written multimedia project. They had to answer: 1) What was it about and what did they learn?; 2) What do you like about your report and how would you improve it?; 3) What would you like to learn more about (about your Human Body System and/or the program Hyperstudio?
