Invite children to describe the size of some objects in the classroom. Have them to say the words big, medium, large. ask them how they know the size of the objects, and then invite them to discover ways to measure and discover different ways to do so.
Students will work in pairs. They will take a shoe of and put it on a piece of paper to be traced by their partner with a pencil. After it is done, they will go to their table and use 1 inch tiles to measure their own foot traced. They have to put the tile along the foot and see how many tiles(inches) it is.
Children have to write a sentence on their foot saying the measure. "My foot is ___ inches long." Ask children to go around the classroom and look for the ones who have the same size, and think why it is the same. Observe and compare their friends measures.
Bring the children together and discuss their measures and ask questions to find out good outcomes. Write them on the board. then create centers where they can use their foot to measure other objects.
After it is done it would be good to summarize the activity with the children and have them to express how they felt about it.
Finally record the activity inn their journals.
