School: Wesclin Junior High School, Trenton, IL
Planned By: Angi Woll
Original Author: Angi Woll, Albers
Students must choose Accelerated Reading novels to read as a part of the Language Skills curriculum. After reading a novel, each student will create a commercial advertising the book. This commercial will be taped and shown in class to not only show a comprehension of the novel and its plot and theme, but also to motivate other students to read that book.

The commercial will be taped in class using Flip cameras and students make use of props and cosumes to show an understanding of the literary elements of the novel.

Length should be two minutes or less. Each student is responsible for their own acting. They will work in partners to video each other after rehearsals are complete.
Comments
We currently only have 4 Flip cameras for the whole Junior High to share. Having a larger number will make the filming of these book trailers much more efficient! Other teachers might be more willing to incorporate them into their own lessons if we had more cameras to be shared.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Any trailers with a historical or science theme could also be shown in those classes to increase interest in technology and in reading.
Follow-Up
When another student chooses to read a book based on the book trailer, they could edit the commercial together to include more perspective.
