Bringing a Short Story to Life
Objective: Students will be challenged to develop, write, and film a short story by using stop motion photography and various props such as clay, dolls, building blocks, action figures or other items to portray characters in their short story. Approach: 1. Introduce the elements of a short story with a discussion of what is considered a short story. Read some short stories to give students some examples. 2. Discuss the 6+1 Writing Process and provide them with a story map to help guide them with their writing. 3. Divide the students into small groups of two-three and let them begin brainstorming and drafting their short stories. 4. Introduce the flip camera and stop motion photography and explain to them how they will bring their stories to life possibly by using dolls, clay, building block such as Legos, or other items deemed appropriate. 5. Discuss the expected outcomes and basic elements of film making such as the script, camera shots, and dialogue. • The student will be able to describe the elements of a short story and apply them within their own stories. • The student will learn about jobs that are related to film making such as editior, actors, voice overs, and presentation.of creating a film. • The student will learn about the basic functions of using a camera and creating a movie. Assignment: Write a short story and bring the story to life by creating a film using the flip camera and other props and mediums. |
