Engage: Read "A Drop Around the World" by a Barbara Shaw McKinney
Explore: Students will collaborate to draw a picture of the water cycle using examples and information from the book. They will present their pictures to the class. While they are presenting, other students will critique the pictures - making changes to their own pictures and suggesting changes for other's pictures.
Explain: The teacher will clarify any misconceptions that are occurring providing relevant and necessary vocabulary. Vocabulary includes: condensation, evaporation, precipitation, water vapor, runoff, transpiration, accumulation, clouds, water storage in ice and snow, infiltration, ground water.
Elaborate: Groups of students will be given a flip camera to find the water cycle around our school. They will be responsible for finding and explaining each part of the cycle in their video. The video must include the relevant vocabulary discussed during the explain portion. Students will present videos to the class.
Evaluate: Individually, students will draw a picture of the water cycle. The picture must be labeled and include relevant vocabulary. Students will explain 3-5 ways the water cycle impacts our world. |
