How does this lesson demonstrate 21st century learning? For this how-to video project, students will have the chance to be creative and work collaboratively with their peers. Students will have the opportunity to write for a purpose and share their work with family and friends. In addition, students will be encouraged to participate in new and exciting outdoor activities.
Lesson Description: As part of our writing curriculum, students will write a how-to book about an outdoor activity or skill that they are an expert on. The skill they choose can be related to jump roping, yo-yo, juggling, biking, or any sport or physical activity. Students will be expected to write in detail how to accomplish their skill. For this reason, students will need to choose a skill they are already an expert on.
Students will first plan their story using a how-to planning hand. Students will then write an introduction to motivate their readers, list the materials, and write out the steps of their how-to After students have completed the how-to book, students will record their audio. Students will practice reading the how-to three times with expression before recording their audio.
The next step is for students to demonstrate their skill on video. Students will show an exciting introduction to motivate others to follow the how-to. Students will also show the materials and each step for completing the how-to. The videos will be published on Vimeo (video hosting website) so that it can then be published online at GoHollyRidge.com. |
