Students in my Sports Medicine class study injuries of all types. We divide our study into units: Head and Spine Injuries, Shoulder and Elbow Injuries, Wrist Injuries, Hip and Pelvis, and Knee and Ankle,as well as various soft tissue injuries and musculoskeletal injuries. For a healthcare professional to determine exact nature of an injury, it requires a careful assessment of range of motion, strength and flexibility analysis, as well as a determination of ligament laxity, and generalized assessment. After these tests are performed, one is able to determine with all likelihood, the nature of the injury. Each type of potential injury, has at least 10-12 types of assessment tests that can be utilized. It is difficult for students to understand these assessment skills tests, without seeing a demonstration. It would definitely be a higher order thinking skill at completion, if the students had created a demonstration video clip of these assessment skills for the rest of the class to view and incorporate into their learning. This would require the students to break down each skills assessment test, into components and better understand the process. The class will be split up into pairs or small teams, to create and produce these skills videos to be utilized by their fellow studets. 10 flip videos will allow the students to be in teams of 2-3 students, and create 10 video clips or more for each unit studied. Skills videos could also be shared via teacher tube or school tube for other schools to utilize. This is not a singular project, but an ongoing project throughout the semester, and each unit. It could also be used as a measurement of skills mastery among the students. |

Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
The students in the past have paired with special education students to create communication boards, and publish alphabet books, as well as offer art therapy. This project could easily incorporate these students as our "patients" in the creation of the skills assessment videos. |
Follow-Up |
Folow up activities will include the analysis of each video clip for suggestions of improvement, and better understanding of learning. Video clips will be shared as needed with coaches and student athletic trainers as a method of staff development. |
