Our History Detectives put an advertisement in the local paper and on our web site invited Maury alumni to a "Community Stories" day. Government students from the class of 2011,the 100th graduating class, met to develop interview questions and organize our day. On March 12 we had 25 members of the community arrive varying in age from 97 to 50. Armed with our flip borrowed cameras, student volunteers from the senior class of 2011 began interviewing our alumni. Students compared notes with former graduates about the cafeteria food, skipping, and prom. there was much laughter as they shared their common perspectives, there were also tears of reminiscing. One of our alum celebrated his 86th birthday that day complete with cake and a tour of the school by student volunteers. Our student volunteers are now busy loading the videos on to schooltube and preparing for our next "Community Stories"day in April. On May 21st we will celebrate a citywide celebration of the Re-dedication of Maury High School. On that day we hope to be able to record the stories of all our attendees. |
