Our Jr. High class needed to improve their language and writing skills!!! In order to come up with a fun activity that would take place in the Performing Arts class we had the children focus on a significant event that has influenced or has changed them as a person. Example, a personal goal obtained, a death in the family, a family vacation etc.
The student was asked to write a journal entry of one page to explain / support the three words that they have chosen. This is how they were to compose their assignment:

Your name and date should be right aligned at the top of the paper.

Dear Diary

You need to complete a page of complete sentences [in paragraphs] describing and supporting your three words. It should be one page in length, double-spaced in Arial, 12 pt font. Be sure that the three words that you chose appear at least once in the supporting paragraphs and be sure that it is Bold and Underlined.
The paragraphs should be organized and complete with correct spelling, capitalization and punctuation.

We had the student think of creative ways to express their Three Words. I was amazed at how they chose to express themselves. Example: A students family business burned in a fire, she had a photo of the building and set it on fire with her three words Destroyed By Fire.
The filming of each students project took only about 10 seconds. we then added music that fit the mood.
When completed we had a beautiful 15 minute film of talented students expressing themselves in a very creative and fun way.
