Before this lesson the teacher needs to find a class to communicate with on epals.com, Teacher should also read one or two picture books of their choice that help depict differences in cultures.
Anticipatory Set: "Remember our story __________ that talked about how people may do things different than we do. They may celebrate different holidays or learn about different things then we do?"
Teach:Today we are going to write a letter that describes out day here at school and we are going to email our letter to our friends in ________. Then in a couple of days to a week we will receive a letter back from our friends that describe their day. Will you help me brainstorm the different things we do at school?" Once you are done brainstorming you can then work on sequencing, and finally putting the information in letter form. Teacher may need to have some guiding questions; what time do we start school?
Closure: Read letter in its entirety. Remind them soon they will receive a letter back and then we will learn about their day.
Plan for Independent Practice: Have student draw a picture of their favorite school activity. They can write a sentence or two about their picture.
Assessment Based on Objectives: Teach will get a sense of their student's understanding based on their participation in the letter as well as their individual picture/sentence. |
