After discussing about the growth of Imperialism and discussing the different effects that imperialism had on these new colonized areas the students will be directed to produce a news show. The students will be grouped. Each group will have approximately 5 to 6 students. Each group will be given a rubric and step by step directions to follow to produce their video.

The first day the students will be given time to research their topic further than what we discussed in class. They will gain more in depth knowledge of the area that they will be reporting on.

After they have gained the information they need they will begin to write their scripts for the evening news. Each person in the group has to have a part in the news show. They can add to their informative information by adding advertisements that would be appropriate for that time. They will also have a weather segment and a sports segment.

The students will also create any back drops they want to add or have them added into the program. (Our school news show has a camera and they can input pictures on the green screen....it is very difficult to use for the students and shuts down while we are taping)

After I have approved the script and information they haver gathered they can begin to practice their news show and determine the length and see what they may need to do to tweak and change what they have until they have a perfect script.

Now it is time to tape! Each group will then tape their news show and prepare it for our viewing pleasure.

I have done this lesson many times and it has worked very well. The kids enjoy producing the news show and enjoy watching the other news casts that are created.
Comments
I would like to obtain a few cameras to help my kids produce their news cast. This would be used more than one time through the year.
