First, students will need to be assigned a particular planet to research. They will use the internet to gather important and interesting information about their given planet. Once the research is complete, students will work in pairs. One student will be an "Earthling" and will be conducting the interview. The other student will be an alien from their assigned planet. Using iMovie, the Earthling will begin recording the interview(pretending to be a news anchor). They will need to explain that an alien from another planet has been captured and will be offering information about their home planet. When the time comes to video the alien, students should select a video effect that will alter the appearance of the student, thus making them appear more "alien like". The Earthling should ask questions of the alien that will provide information about their home planet, such as, "What is the temperature of your planet? Where is your planet located?". When iMovies are complete, the teacher will use a projector to show an interview on each planet to the entire class.
Comments
Project can also be done with video cameras (such as Flip) if programs other than iMovie are to be used.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Art-Create background to be used in interview. Create masks for aliens.
Science- Create displays of research info...such as posters.
Follow-Up
