School: South Miami K-8 Center, Miami, FL
Planned By: Joyce Rosales
Original Author: Joyce Rosales, Miami
Goals and Objectives:
1. The student will recognize and recall the one to one correspondence between most letters and sounds.
2. The student demonstrates knowledge of the alphabetic principle and applies grade level phonics skills to read text.
3. The student will decode simple words in isolation and in context.
4. The student will identify initial, final, and medial phonemes (sounds) in consonant/vowel/consonant (CVC) words (e.g., sat);
5. The student will blend and segment individual phonemes in simple, one-syllable words.
6. The student will manipulate individual phonemes in CVC words through addition, deletion, and substitution.

The idea of ABC books will be introduced using various ABC books with the students (for example: Dr. Seuss's ABC: An Amazing Alphabet Book!).
Students will also learn letters and their corresponding sounds using phonics software (for example: Tool Factory Phonics 1).
Each student will be assigned one letter and using Presentation software template, they will type in the letter, insert a picture, and type in a short sentence on the slide (for example: A is for Apple).
The teacher will help the students to record themselves reading the letter, saying the sound and reading the sentence.
The students will learn how to insert the sound file on their individual slide.
The completed ABC book presentation will be shared with the class, school, and parents.
As an expansion and practice for the technology of using presentation software, students will later create books about social studies, science, and math topics.

To evaluate student learning, teacher made tests, rubrics, and software assessements will be used.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Students will also create presentation books related to other curriculum areas.
