Creating a Digital Story as a Summative Assessment Page Views: 2737
|
Students will be broken into groups of 3-4 and given a digital camera to use throughout our unit over Chemical Reactions. Their task is to take pictures/video that shows evidence of learning throughout the unit. (For example: if we conduct a lab experiment that aided in the understanding of chemical bonding, then they will take photos/videos of the lab to be used in the final digital storybook.)
At the end of the unit, each group will compile their digital pictures and videos into a digital storybook or movie that showcases the content of the unit and evidence of the concepts learned in the unit. Students may use any digital storytelling website or multimedia program to compose their project, but the project must include a url address that will be uploaded to our class webpage.
The digital storybook must contain at least 10 pictures and 2 video clips and must include narration by all members of the group. Graphics and titles must also be included in the project. Each group member must be shown 4 times throughout the project.
After being uploaded to our class webpage, groups will peer assess the project, make corrections, and upload again for final review by the teacher. A rubric will be used for grading purposes. |

Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
We would love to work with our technology teacher to branch out and create more advanced movies/projects in a future chemistry unit.

Follow-Up |
Have students view one another's projects as a way to "review" for the Unit exam. |
