The teacher will provide a grade specific math word problems for the students.
The students will open PowerPoint and make a title slide.
Students will INSERT>NEW SLIDE.
Students will add text by clicking INSERT>TEXT BOX and dragging where it should be. Each student will type in the problem she/he has been given.
Students will add additional slides to describe each step in the thought process they would use to solve the problem by clicking INSERT>NEW SLIDE and INSERT> TEXT BOX.
On the last slide students will click FORMAT>BULLETS AND NUMBERING and summarize all the steps taken to produce the correct answer.
When finished solving the problem students may be creative by selecting FORMAT> BACKGROUND and choosing a favorite color.
Students may also add clip art to the slides to illustrate the word problem. They would click INSERT> PICTURE> CLIP ART to find pictures. (Example: Ashley had 4 pieces of candy and Michael had 5 pieces of candy. If Ashley and Michael combined their candy and shared it equally with their friend Jaylen, how many will each child get? In this case, a student might find clip art of several kinds of candy.)
When completed, the teacher may combine all of the student PowerPoints and show them to the class.
Follow-Up
Teacher can combine all of the student work and present it to the class. I have found that this helps the students to think about how they might have solved it the same way or differently.
