After being given initial instruction on negative numbers, students will be divided into 5 groups. Each group will be given a subtopic within negative numbers. The subtopics are Real World Examples, Plotting Negative Numbers, Adding Negative Numbers, Subtracting Negative Numbers, and Multiplying/Dividing Negative Numbers. Even though students are divided into groups, they are working alone. Each student will create his/her own glog on the given topic. The groups are only to assign topics. Once students have their topics, they will be given one day to design a rough draft of what they would like their glogs to look like. During this time, they will use a graphic organizer to ensure that they have everything that will be needed in their glogs. The second day of the lesson will be spent going over the basic tools need to create a glog on glogster.edu. Students will be shown how to add clipart, video, sound, pictures, hyperlinks, and text. They will then be given time to explore the website and create a glog that represents themselves. The third and fourth day of the lesson will be spent creating glogs on their given topic within negative numbers. These glogs will serve as a visual aide to reteach the topic to the rest of the class. Students will be required to include sound, video, and images. They will also be required to show one example of what a problem from their topic would look like, define what their topic is, and give any mathematical rules related to their topic. The fifth and sixth days of the lesson will be spent presenting glogs to the rest of the class. This will also serve as a review for a test on negative numbers which will be given on the seventh day of this lesson. |
