For this lesson, students will each select a fitness or nutrition topic, such as "eating breakfast", "the importance of eating vegetables", or "cardiovascular exercise" that they think is important for teens to know.
* One student will be the editor, instead of choosing a topic.
* Each student will create up to 5 power point slides. Students are encouraged to make the slide interesting. Use photos, insert video, or conduct an interview in addition to outlining the important information. Students are to gather their information from assignments and websites that we have used throughout the semester or they may research new information from appropriate websites.
* Each student must also provide a scripte for narration for each slide on a shared googledoc.
* All slides will be uploaded into mybrainshark.com for narration.
* The student editor is responsible for creating the "cover" or opening slide, an introduction, a table of contents, putting the slides in order and making a slide of the credits (work cited) at the end.
* In addition, the editor will manage the narration. Students are encouraged to each narrate their own, but it is also possible to have the editor or another student do the narrating if a script is provided. In some classes, a separate narrator may be appointed for the entire presentation.

* Once complete, the class will view and evaluate our digital presentation, "Fitness and Nutrition Guidelines for Teens".

This is a collaborative assignment intended to be a portion of the final for Personal Training class.

Comments
This project did not add any cost to our budget. We have access to a computer lab. We also have several headsets to use for narration. Students do some of the work at home. Students can also make video clips on their own and upload them to a slide. We used 3 class days to discuss the project, select topics, research and create slides. We used another 2 days to organize and narrate the presentation. Although it took longer than I thought it would, the students were very interested in their topic as well as viewing other students' portions. They also helped each other along the way, from creating the slides, to sharing the slides, uploading information, and narrating. It was a class project.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
The initial topics were fitness and nutrition, but technology definitely was a focus also. In addition, students corrected each other's spelling and grammar before the final presentation.
Follow-Up
The final project can be linked to the instructor web page so that parents can view the completed project.
