School: Axtell High School, Axtell, TX
Planned By: Lynn Burleigh
Original Author: Lynn Burleigh, Axtell
Time required to complete the lesson: 3-5 class periods

Required materials:
PowerPoint software
Halloween Clipart
Halloween sound effects

Objectives:
•Students will learn how to use the animation and slideshow features of PowerPoint.

•Students will be selective in their visual and audio design and create effects that correlate with the animation's timing.

Student Instructions:
1.Create a new folder and name it Halloween eCard.

2.Once you have decided on your music and sound effects make sure you put it in the folder first, before you insert it to PowerPoint. This makes sure that PowerPoint will be able to always find it.

3.Open new Power Point – Blank presentation- Save As: "Halloween Card" in the Halloween e-card folder.

4.Now you are ready to begin.

5.Insert Sound – Have it play automatically. Click on the bell and check the play automatically, hide during show, loop until stopped, and change the max sound file to 50,000. SAVE.

6.Insert clipart – Choose a background for your card.

7.Then use your creativity.

a.Choose a clipart and go to the animation tab, custom Animation. Notice that a new
window opens on the right.
b.Choose your effect. Play with them a little. Choose an entrance effect to start. If
you want the object to leave the scene, choose an exit effect to make it go away.
c.Time your animations to play with the beat of the music.

8.Choose your words. Go to insert Word Art and pick your layout. Go to home and select the font and size. If you double click on it and hit ctrl c, then hit ctrl v, what happens?

9.Use your creativity. Try this: Add custom animation to one of your word arts. Keep the one in back as a solid shadow. The one in front needs to be smaller so go to home font and changed the size to a size smaller. To add a cool effect, change the color. While the word art is selected, go to drawing tools – format - text effects, choose glow (maximum) the last one.

10.Go up to slide show, choose from beginning. Notice the effects all playing together.

11.Add your sentiment. Go to insert, text box and type what you want to say. Add animation if you want to. Try this: choose entrance effect…peak in…one from the left and one from the right. Have them come in after the other animations…“after previous” and delayed 1.5 seconds, SLOW. Raise your hand if you need help.

12.When you are finished, SAVE AS PowerPoint Show.

13.Post your slideshow on My Big Campus and enable comments.

14.You must critique at least three classmate's slideshows.

15.Email Halloween e-card to teachers.

Try different animations and work with the advanced timeline.

Have fun with it!!
