Scholastic Classroom Magazines helps my students practice their reading and analytical skills as well as address current issues which are relevant to both their academic and personal lives. Scholastic Classroom Magazines also are aligned to the common core standards!

Each week my students receive a copy of Scholastic News magazine, which feature a wide variety of current informational texts on seasonal topics. Pass out the current week's Scholastic News magazine. Project Scholastic News interactive Version (which comes with your membership) onto the whiteboard. As a class go through the articles page by page reading them as a class and discussing them as you go. As students are looking at their paper issue, I am also going through the online issue. Scholastic Interactive Version is great because it allows for multimedia online learning in my classroom. It makes the magazine come alive for students. It includes features such a highlighting, vocabulary, as well as videos and/or links so we can dive deeper into a subject as a class. It also teaches informational text skills for reading non-fiction articles. This is a great way to include exciting technology into your classroom and the best part is that it is all ready for you! Each issue comes with a teacher's guide (lesson plan) and an online interactive version. Students are motivated and engaged readers. They love learning about the current issues happening in our country and our world.
