Objectives: Use a variety of multimedia tools and peripherals to support personal productivity and learning throughout the curriculum. Collaborate with peers, experts, and others using collaborative practices such as pair programming, working in project teams, and participating in group active learning activities. Develop and apply keyboarding skills utilizing current technology. Use information technology tools.
Activities: At the start of the school year, teacher will instruct students on the basics of touch typing after dividing the students into teams. Students then use keyboarding software to increase their touch typing skills at their own pace. Every week, there will be a timed keyboarding "quiz". Team scores will be averaged and recorded on a spreadsheet. At the end of each month, a "Team of the Month" will be chosen based on highest average scores. These students will receive incentives (discussed and chosen by students at the beginning of the project). Once students are able to type at a reasonable pace, they will continue practicing with the keyboarding software and then start using their skills to create documents and presentations.
Evaluation: Students will set a goal and be graded on "growth" towards the goal Students' projects using productivity software will be graded using rubrics
