Students will work in groups of 4. Students will be recorded/videoed doing a cold read of a story from Reader's Theater. Students will then watch themselves, at a listening/watch station set up at the computer. Students will be able to critique themselves, and see/hear where they need to improve. Students will then talk with each other to give positive feedback, and discuss how they can improve. Students will read a second time being recorded again, so that they can once again critique themselves, and see how they have improved. The third read will be for the rest of the class, and also recorded. Videos can be shared with parents to see progress being made. Students will not be recorded every time. Different groups different weeks. This lesson can be used by different grade levels. Older students can work and learn to operate the camera and computer. |

Comments |
Students learn and improve with hands on activities. Students also learn about cooperation when working with others in class, and across grade levels. |
Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
Teachers could have students write their own stories based on science or social studies curriculum. |
Follow-Up |
Sharing with parents, having older students working with younger ones in "the studio" to record. |
