Procedures:
Day 1- Exploration Day 1. Introduce students, as a whole class, to Google Earth and Virtual Earth. 2. Introduce students to Dr. Click Lensington. 3. Show students the PowerPoint presentation they will complete. 4. Divide students into teams of two. 5. Allow students to explore and practice exploring by visiting places such as Disney World and Aurora, Colorado.
Day 2 – Capital Cities 1. Give teams their Capital Cities clue list. 2. Read over the clues with students. 3. Complete the first clue together to demonstrate how students will use Virtual Earth to solve each clue. 4. Show students how to enter the clue answer onto the PowerPoint presentation. 5. Demonstrate how to take a screen shot of Virtual Earth and how to paste it into the PowerPoint presentation. 6. Allow teams to begin searching for clue answers. Provide teams with assistance as needed.
Day 3 – Capital Cities (cont) 1. Allow students additional time to complete the Capitals portion of the PowerPoint presentation if needed.
Day 4 & 5 – Famous Friends 1. Give teams their Famous Friends clue list. 2. Read over the clues with students. 3. Complete the first clue together to demonstrate how students will use Google Earth to solve each clue. 4. Show students how to enter the clue answer onto the PowerPoint presentation. 5. Demonstrate how to take a screen shot of Google Earth and how to paste it into the PowerPoint presentation. 6. Allow teams to begin searching for clue answers. Provide teams with assistance as needed.
Days 6 & 7 – Landmarks 1. Give teams their Landmarks clue list. 2. Read over the clues with students. 3. Complete the first clue together to demonstrate how students will use Google Earth to solve each clue. 4. Show students how to enter the clue answer onto the PowerPoint presentation. 5. Demonstrate how to take a screen shot of Google Earth and how to paste it into the PowerPoint presentation. 6. Allow teams to begin searching for clue answers. Provide teams with assistance as needed.
Days 8-9 – History 1. Give teams their History clue list. 2. Read over the clues with students. 3. Day 12 – Finishing Touches 1. Give teams time to complete their PowerPoint presentation. Students may complete any unsolved clues, edit and proofread their presentations, and complete the bibliography page. |

Accommodations for Differentiated Instruction
Resource Student: Students may search for clues or locations in Nettrekker where they can make use of the narration tools.
Non-English Speaking Student: Students may work with a partner who is able to translate for them. They may also use Nettrekker to search for clue locations so they can make use of the narration tools.
Gifted Students: Gifted students will become “Tour Guides” and will be able to assist other teams. They may be granted “Tour Guide” status after showing a proficiency in locating information, taking screen shots, and recording information on the PowerPoint presentation.
