School: W B Saul HS for AG Sciences, Philadelphia, PA
Planned By: Alyssa Schafer
Original Author: Alyssa Schafer, Philadelphia
Students will research specific topics (vital signs, injections, nutrients & fecal samples) and answer given questions on their topics. These groups will then teach their topic to the class after putting together a presentation. Students will learn from one another and learn through their research and readings about the health and nutrition needs of various animals.

I will start with the daily "stinger" (warm up question) to get them thinking and to stick with consistency. I will then explain to them that, in groups, they will have the opportunity to teach one another about their given topics. I will let them choose their topics from a hat (but I will assign groups). The idea of them having control of what they are teaching (and how they are teaching it) should entice and excite them about the lesson as a whole.

DAY 1:
Stinger
Explanation of group teaching activity
Hand out rubric
Explain rubric as well
Any questions or concerns about activity?
Assign groups
Allow students to pick their topic from a hat
Give groups time to research

DAY 2:
Stinger
Give groups time to finish up research
Ask groups individually how they plan to present (and keep the rest of the class interested)
Give students lists of what SHOULD be covered under each topic
IE- vocabulary, concepts, or specific ideas

Day 3:
Stinger
presentations

I will use the exit slips to wrap up class discussions and reinforce concepts. The research itself will be a good group activity to reinforce the concepts and the group discussion on the ideas/terms and how to present them will built critical thinking and decision making skills.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
this activity was originally used in a Veterinary Technology class. It is easily adapted to any subject. It has since been used in a natural resources class and a physical science class.
Follow-Up
Students were asked to rank which presentations worked best and WHY. This critique was very helpful for the grousp
