Goal: The goal of this lesson is to focus on water conservation, collecting and graphing data, and comparing/contrasting the results.
Procedure:
Introduction- Students will use an iPad or laptop to chart the amount of water they use during a 24 hour period. This includes flushing toilets, showers, drinks, watering flowers, etc.
Application- Students will bring this information back to class. During class the students will use an application that helps them graph their results. This graph will be saved for future reference. - As a class we will discuss how we can conserve water in the areas that they were using to better our planet and how it affects the world's future. A main question will be, why is conservation important. - With this information the students will once again track the amount of water they use in a 24 hour period with an iPad or laptop. -Students will bring this information back to class and add onto their previous graph online. - With this information the students will compare and contrast what the changes have been after becoming more educated on water conservation.
Wrap- up- For follow up the students will write a paper and present with their graph how water conservation affects them, the community, and the world's future. - To summarize the students will come up with their top rules for conserving water, make posters, and hang up around the school. |

Comments |
If the students were able to each work on their own iPad during class we could interact as a class, make sure they know the material before moving on by using a quick survey, and prepare them for their technological future. |
Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
In regards to the lesson plan above, they are also incorporating English. I would use the iPads for the paper they are writing as an English lesson as well. With the iPads the students can upload their papers onto Turnitin application and peer edit each other's papers before submitting. |
Follow-Up |
Their final followup will be to collaborate all of their ideas into making posters to hang around the school for water conservation awareness. |
