Upon completion of the drama, students will pick a scene from Romeo and Juliet. In groups of four, the students will rewrite a scene. The entire scene will be paraphrased as to not lose Shakespeare's meaning, and it will still be set in the appropriate time period. Throughout a week, students will make a set props, costumes, and any other essentials for the scene. On the last day, groups will take turns practicing and recording final performances in the school auditorium.
Day One: Brainstorm/Rewrite scene in groups
Day Two: Continue rewriting & prop design
Day Three: Bring costumes/props for approval & rehearse
Day Four: Rehearse scenes in groups
Day Five: Record scenes
This lesson will ensure that students understand the content of the Shakespeare play. Every student will participate in the group activity, and the students will have to learn to work together. This lesson encourages creativity, collaboration, and technology use.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Students will research seventeenth century dress and culture.
