ELACC7L4: Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases based on grade 7 reading and content, choosing flexibly from a range of strategies.
Objective: Students will be able to demonstrate a mastery of key vocabulary terms
Opening: Students will be given a list of vocabulary words. They will then be expected to research the words' meanings using their own electronic devices.
Work Session: Students will seek out situations in the community (or create them if appropriate) that represent the meaning of their vocabulary word (the wackier the better). Students must then snap a photo of the situation. Students will post their snapshot of the vocabulary word on their blog along with a caption that briefly explains how the scenario offers an illustration of the vocabulary word.
Closing: Each student will choose a specified number of words to showcase to the group. They will bring up their blog, show the snapshots, and explain how the word is defined in the situation. Bonus points for students who dress up to represent one of their words! |
