Learning Targets: *Distinguish between Active and Passive Transport. *Explain the role of cell organelles for both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, including the cell membrane, in maintaining homeostasis and cell reproduction. *Explain how enzymes function as catalysts. *Identify the function of the four major macromolecules (i.e. carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids.)
Opening: Students will find their correct group based upon their two weakest learning target areas that were determined by the students the day prior. Teacher and Students will review how the stations activities will proceed.
Work Session: Students will work at two stations in small groups to complete the task. Stations include: Organelles –where students will distinguish between plant and animal cells as well as eukaryote and prokayote cells, Transport – where students will distinguish between passive and active transport, Macromolecules – where students will identify the function of the four major macromolecules, Enzymes – where students will explain how enzymes function as catalysts.
Differentiation: Students choose their two weakest elements and complete a review of their weakness (20 minutes per review activity/group). Station 1: Prokaryote vs. Eukayote and plant vs. Animal (Hands on manipulative and quick write/quick draw-authentic literacy). Station 2: Enzyme Technology review using google chrome books and the blendspace website. Station 3: Macromolecules poster stations with graphic organizer distinguishing between functions and examples. Station 4: Passive vs. Active Transport (interactive ActiveBoard activity using the activeslate). Closing:Students complete the green, yellow, red activity. SW place a post-it on the green is they have mastered the elements reviewed in class, yellow if they still have questions, and red if they still have limited understanding of the content.
Modifications: Students will work in groups and have extra time as needed/required by IEP
